چکیده

A 39-year-old white male with a history of subtotal thyroidectomy was referred because of intermittent nightly voiding of milky urine for a period of 1 year, suggestive of chyluria. Urine analysis revealed periodical proteinuria up to 3.8 g/day, triglyceriduria (137mg/dl) and chylomicronuria. Screening for infectious disease and urological abnormalities was negative. Both kidneys and the renal pelvis were normal. There was no indication of lymph leakage to the renal collecting system at bipedal Tc-DTPA (diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid)-albumin lymphography. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed both a dilated and tortuous thoracic duct from the suprarenal

Background and purpose: Evaluation of suspected biliary obstruction is performed by common old methods such as Ultrasound, CT, and invasive cholangiography. These techniques have limitations due to the poor visualization of intraductal stones (US, CT) and the need for an invasive procedure (ERCP, PTC). Magnetic resonance cholangiography (MRC) is noninvasive imaging modality that provides good...

MR cholangiopancreatography findings of heterotopic pancreatic tissue in the distal common bile duct.

Heterotopic pancreas is defined as the presence of pancreatic tissue at sites other than the pancreas. Involved sites may be the stomach, duodenum, proximal jejunum, ileum, congenital duodenal web, Meckel's diverticulum, ampulla of Vater, and the main pancreatic duct. We report the magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography findings of a patient who had biliary obstruction due to heterotopic p...

Chyluria associated with bronchial carcinoma.

Introduction Descriptions of chyluria-the passage of milky white urine have been recorded since the time of Hippocrates (Foesius, 1665). The condition, although not uncommon in the Far East, is rare in Britain. On a world-wide basis, it most commonly results from filarial worm infection of lymphatics. Non-parasitic causes of chyluria include congenital malformations of the thoracic duct, trauma...

Chyluria associated with nephrotic-range proteinuria: pathophysiology, clinical picture and therapeutic options.

Chyluria denotes the urinary excretion of chyle, which is a lymphatic fluid rich in chylomicrons. Chyle flows from the intestinal lacteals to the left subclavian vein through the thoracic duct. When an abnormal connection between these structures and the urinary tract develops, chyluria appears. The syndrome is often associated with a nephrotic-range proteinuria, and this could be a wrong indic...

Comparison of preoperative evaluation of malignant low-level biliary obstruction using plain magnetic resonance and coronal liver acquisition with volume acceleration technique alone and in combination

BACKGROUND To evaluate the clinical value of plain magnetic resonance (MR) imaging (including magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography, MRCP) and coronal liver acquisition with volume acceleration (LAVA) technique in the diagnosis and preoperative assessment of malignant low-level biliary obstruction. METHODS Forty-one patients with confirmed malignant low-level biliary obstruction were ex...
